Dance Innovations Dance Center – April 2011 Notice

Welcome  – Hello Dancers!  Recital is right around the corner!  Please note we will be filming in class over the next few weeks in order to make our Recital Video Montage.  To be sure we have each dancer in the video and because there are only 8 weeks left of classes, please do your best to come to class so you can be ready for the big show!

*All afternoon Tuesday 4/12 and Thursday 4/14 Classes will be SWITCHING STUDIOS (for that day only).  (ie. If you are in S#2 for 3:30 Tuesday Hip Hop – you will be in S#1 on Tuesday 4/12).

Recital, Ticket Sale Day, Fall Schedule, DVDs, Etc.

Ticket Sale Day information, DVD Order forms, the Fall Schedule and general recital and rehearsal information will be going out in a separate notice(s) later this month.  Be on the lookout!

A huge THANK YOU!!! goes out to Mollie Baron, Rachel Zampini, Amanda Annicelli, Molly McDevitt, Gabbie Diaz, Jane Kayarian, Kaylee Murray, and all the Team DIDC Dancers who helped to make the video essay nomination of “How does my dance teacher inspire me and others?” in the nationwide 2011 DanceLifeTV Scholarship Contest – because…. THEIR VIDEO WON!!!!  Thanks to their video (and super-sweet content), Miss Katie won a scholarship to the 2011 DanceLife Teacher Conference in Arizona.

2010-2011 Team DIDC – Congratulations!!!

Congratulations to all of our Team DIDC Dancers – Amanda, Gabbie, Mollie, Molly M., Jane, Rachel Z., Kaylee, Emily, Valerie, Rachel M., Paris, Kalie, Abby, Natalie, Brynne, Katie, Brooke, Sarah, Myra, Molly P., Samantha, Suzie, Abi, Andrea, Rebecca, Meredith, Allie, and Lauren!  The Team brought home a Gold, 13 Elite Golds, two Platinums, two 2^nd Runner-Up Overall High Scores, two 1^st Runner-Up Overall High Scores, and three Special Judges Awards!  Our Senior Lyrical Team Members were invited to dance on the National Elite Team as well!  Great job, ladies!!!  We’re so proud of you and all of the hard work you’ve put forth!

*Come support Team DIDC in their final competition of the year – Dancers, Inc. – to be held May 13-15 at Amesbury High School in Amesbury, MA.

Dance Photo Day
Photo Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 9^th.  Exact times for your class have been sent home with the photo order forms.   You must have ONE form PER costume – and all forms must be returned by Thursday April 7^th or we will assume you are not coming.  Light makeup is recommended (blush and lipstick) and hair can be however you’d like for pictures – unless you are on team – Team Dancers must follow regular makeup/earrings/hair guidelines.  Pictures are being taking between 1pm – 6:30pm in BOTH Studios!! Please be sure to double check the schedule so you know what studio your photo will be taken in.

The DIDC Performance Company

For those dancers looking for more non-competitive performance opportunities (other than recital), we’ll be adding a new DIDC Performance Company for the 2011 season.  We’re looking for dancers 2^nd Grade and up – and depending on the interest, we may have more than one company.  The company will perform a minimum of four local performances throughout the year – such as fairs, nursing homes, parades, etc.  Dancers will meet several times over the summer in order to prepare for the fall/holiday fairs and parades – learning new and old dances to build a repertoire.  The Company will be strictly choreography-based, and will meet weekly during the regular season as well.  Company members must be enrolled in at least one ballet class for the fall (ballet/tap classes count) as all company dances will be ballet/jazz based.  Please let us know ASAP if you are interested – we plan on holding an informational session in the Spring – but would like to know where the interest lies age-wise (as to whether or not there will need to be more than one group).

Pirouette & Split Club

Our Pirouette and Split Clubs are in dire need of new members!!!  Keep practicing, dancers, and when you think you have perfected all three splits or a clean pirouette on each side – let your teacher know and we will check to see if you qualify for the club!!

Summer Schedule

The Summer Schedule is now available!  Get your summer registrations in by May 1^st and receive your Early-Bird Discount and in some cases last year’s early bird rates!  No registration fees for current dancers!!! Space is limited and camps and classes have already begun to fill.  Also, once again, all dancers are invited to perform at the Stratham Fair this summer – we are scheduled for Sunday, July 24 from 3-4pm.

Dance Team Auditions

For Dancers (ages 8&up) – auditions will be held on Tuesday & Thursday, May 17th & 19^th.  Regular team lessons will NOT be held – please only attend the classes for which you wish to audition:  (Current team members please come to YOUR level team classes – and we will move you around level-wise if we need to.  *New dancers wishing to audition should plan to come either the Petite or Jr. level auditions.

Tues – 4:15pm-5:00pm – Hip Hop (ages 10+)

Tues – 5:00pm-5:45pm – Jr./Sr. Tap Team (ages 11+)

Tues – 5:45pm-6:30pm – Jr. Jazz (ages 11-15)

Tues – 6:30pm-7:15pm – Jr. Ballet/Lyrical Team (ages 11-15)

Thurs – 4:00pm-4:45pm – Petite Ballet/Lyrical Team (ages 8-12)

Thurs – 4:45pm-5:30pm – Petite Jazz Team (ages 8-12)

Thurs – 5:30pm-6:15pm – Petite Tap Team (ages 8-12)

Thurs – 6:15pm-7:00pm – Sr. Ballet/Lyrical (ages 15+)

Thurs – 7:00pm-7:45pm – Sr. Jazz (ages 15+)

All dancers are welcome to audition – it is run just like a regular class – no dances to make up or learn.  The current plan for next year’s schedule will have Jr & Sr Teams on Tuesdays and Petite Teams on Fridays.  Ask for a copy of the “Dance Team Contract” if you would be new to the team and would like more information regarding the commitment.  Break a leg!

Dance Innovations Dance Center – March 2011 Notice

Welcome  – Hello Dancers!  Spring is right around the corner!  Which means… so is the recital!  Classes resume on Monday, March 7^th – I hope you had a wonderful vacation!  There are only 13 weeks left of classes, so please do your best to come to class so you can be sure you are ready for the big show!

Tights & Costumes

Costumes have started to go home.  (If you are waiting on alterations or new sizes, please do not worry, you will have your costumes before Photo Day!)  Please keep costumes in a safe place until competitions, picture day, rehearsal, & recital.  Costumes can NOT be replaced!  Once they leave DIDC they are YOUR responsibility so don’t let your brother wear them and don’t let your dog eat them!  J  Thank you!!!  Also, please check the sizing chart on the back of your tight package to ensure you have the right size.  Unopened tights can be exchanged at the studio for a different size.

Elite Dance Challenge

Please come and support Team DIDC as they compete in their first competition of the season on Saturday, April 2nd at Stratham Co-Operative Middle School.  Please feel free to come by and support our dancers!  Admission is free.  Good luck, dancers!!!

Warm Hearts
Warm Hearts, a project by one of our own dancers – Julia Wood, is collecting new throw pillows, pillow cases (standard size) and blankets for the children in the oncology unit of Boston Children’s Hospital.  Please read more about Warm Heart’s and Julia’s mission in the lobby of both studios.  Donations can be dropped off in the grey box in studio 1.  We are currently looking for St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, and Red Sox themed items.

Non-Recital Classes
Our non-recital classes are in full swing, and we are accepting registrations on an on-going basis!  We offer Dancin’ Darlings for ages 3-5 on Saturdays from 9:30-10:15am, Hip Hop for ages 5-8 on Mondays from 3:45-4:30, Hip Hop for ages 8+ on Wednesdays from 6:45-7:30pm, and Beginner Adult Tap on Wednesdays from 7:30-8:15pm.  As a special for our regular-season families – please enjoy the family discount of 10% on non-recital classes for any siblings (or parents!) wishing to try out dance this spring!

Summer/Fall Schedules

Keep your eyes peeled for our Summer and Fall schedules.  The Summer schedule will be out within the next couple of weeks and the Fall schedule is soon to follow!  Once again, all dancers are invited to perform at the Stratham Fair this summer – we are tentatively scheduled for Sunday, July 24th from 3-4pm.

Dance Innovations Dance Center – February 2011 Notice

Welcome  – Hello Dancers!  Can you believe it’s almost Valentine’s Day!  The studio will be CLOSED for Winter Vacation Sunday, February 27^th through Sunday, March 6^th.  Have a good break!

Tights & Costumes

Costumes are starting to come in – once all the pieces are here (ie. tights, etc.), any necessary alterations have been made and they have been steamed, they will begin being sent home.  *Please note – costumes will NOT be sent home until student accounts are in good standing.*   Included with each costume is a pair of tights.  Please look at the sizing chart on the back of the tights and verify that you have the correct size.  If you need to exchange for size, please return tights to me BEFORE you open them.  Please take care of your costumes – hang them in the closet and please do not use them as dress up until after recital is over.  They are made to order and in most cases, cannot be replaced.  Thanks!

Snow Policy Reminder

If the studio must cancel classes due to weather or events beyond our control such as power outages, students may take another scheduled class appropriate for their age and experience level.  No refunds for lessons missed due to these reasons will be given. If there are more than 3 weather cancellations for your class, a separate makeup class will be scheduled.  If Greenland Central School closes due to snow, daytime classes (classes held before 2pm) are automatically cancelled. However, this does NOT mean that afternoon classes will be cancelled. The decision will be made by 2pm. You will be notified via EMAIL ONLY if classes are cancelled. You may also call the studio AFTER 2pm to check the voicemail message as well. Individual phone calls will no longer be made. *Saturday class decisions will be made by 8am.
